Relevant Authorities

What is a Relevant Authority?

A 'relevant authority' is one having local powers or functions relating to the European Marine Site and adjacent areas.

A 'competent authority' is any statutory body or public office exercising legislative powers

The management scheme for the Humber Estuary has been produced by a partnership of over 30 Relevant Authorities that have jurisdiction on or around the Humber Estuary. They are all equal members of the Humber Estuary Relevant Authorities Group that has developed the scheme (2000-2005) and are now tasked with implementing it with the ongoing advice and support of the Humber Advisory Group.

The Humber Relevant Authorities Group collectively funds the Humber Management Scheme and they employ a Project Officer to coordinate the implementation of the scheme on a day to day basis. All Humber Management Scheme business is discussed and decided on through a democratic process involving all the members.
